JOB PURPOSE

The Cycling Programme Coordinator’s role is to create an inspirational and sustainable programme which supports the cycling development of all students, whatever their ability. The coordinator will develop initiatives which will fall within the School’s sport, PE, expedition and activity programmes. The coordinator will have the skills to deliver elements of the programme which fall within the remit of the Director of Character Education. 

 

KEY TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES – students

  • To develop cycling from the ground up, ensuring a solid platform of interest and skills throughout the school;

  • To develop all aspects of cycling through the school – including mountain and e-mountain biking, BMX, track, as well as cycling expeditions;

  • To create and develop a competitive squad; 

  • To support the expedition, activities and sports programmes, participating in expeditions, activities and assisting other related departments, as required;

  • Integrating cycling into the PE and sports curriculum;

  • Developing students’ opportunities for further development through activities and expeditions, weekdays and weekends;

  • Develop and run expeditions with a cycling focus;

  • To enable students to participate in bicycle maintenance training and to obtain licences for e-bike use.

KEY TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES – students (winter term only)

  • Accompanying the junior expeditions on Saturdays and senior expeditions on Sundays;

  • To participate in junior long expeditions and two senior long expeditions;

  • To assist with the ski and snowsports programme.

 

KEY TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES – summer school programme

  • To advise the summer school management on the inclusion of cycling activities within their programme;

  • To assist the summer school management in the appointment of cycling leaders and guides.

 

KEY TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES – stores and equipment

  • Have oversight of maintenance and upkeep of the bicycle fleet;

  • Ensure that the bicycle fleet is stored safely and securely;

  • Ensure that bicycle trailers, batteries and other related equipment are well maintained and in good repair;

  • To make recommendations on the development of the bicycle fleet;

  • To manage and store safely equipment relating to bicycle repairs and maintenance. 

 

KEY TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES – Health, safety and other

  • To review and make recommendations for changes to bicycle related policies, procedures and regulations;

  • To ensure that students and staff are wearing appropriate PPE and operating safely while riding their bicycle;

  • To attend department meetings, staff and student briefings and staff training sessions as required;

  • Provide training and guidance for staff;

 

KEY TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES – community

  • To liaise with the UCI World Cycling Centre in Aigle and maintain a productive working relationship which supports the development of Aiglon’s students; 

  • To liaise with the ESS Bike School for the provision of guides for school activities;

  • To liaise with local cycling clubs and schools on matters relating to cycling;

  • To organise events both for the School and, in collaboration with local cycling clubs, for the wider community;

  • Develop links with the community and organise events.

  • Undertake any other task which may be reasonably required by the Director of Character Education.

  • Understand and implement all school policies and procedures, particularly those relating to safeguarding children and young people
